12 nostalgic telephone cards from the 90’s

Posted by: brb In: Art| Design ()

Those who came to Japan in the late 80’s or early 90’s probably have fond memories of telephone cards. Those were the pre-Internet years when the only means of long-distance communication was the telephone; when one 1,000-yen telephone card will get you just a few minutes worth of time to talk to your family back home.

For a time, I have collected a sizable amount of telephone cards, bought on my own, picked up from telephone booths or given by friends. Here are some telephone cards to bring back the memories.

You might recognize some of these designs, especially the more common ones like the image of Grand Hotel Yokohama near the bay or the night-time image of Mount Fuji from Nihondaira.

Yes, natsukashii! One of my early memories of Japan: phone cards, couldn’t live without them. I like your page, too, and added you to my links. :)

I had two of those actually. :) And maybe about 3 phonecards with the picture of 2 cute puppies.
