Twirl N’ Take and other hand-powered Sony gadgets at Eco Products 2008

Posted by: brb In: Gadgets| Tech| eco products 2008 ()

Sony featured its kinetic-powered Odo line of gadgets at the recently held Eco Products 2008 Expo at the Tokyo Big Site.

Among these is the Twirl N’ Take, a 3-megapixel CMOS-sensor-equipped hand-powered digital camera. It looks like a pizza cutter and you roll the round part to power the camera before taking a shot. (The round part is also the finder, where you peek through to compose you shot.)

According to Sony, 15 seconds of rolling will get you one shot, although you have to view the pictures on a computer. The sensor is the same type that is found in mobile phones.

Also on display were the Crank N’ Capture, a video camera that is powered by turning a crank on its side; and Spin N’ Snap, another hand-powered digital camera.

These are intentionally toy-like gadgets and colored such as to appeal to children and operated as toys, without batteries. Sony’s Odo series gadgets are have an appealing design and concept although the company has no immediate plans to roll out commercial products to the market any time soon.
