The Japanese are getting older and the population is shrinking. There is virtually no incoming immigration of foreigners to alleviate the decreasing workforce in one of the top economies of the world. Are robots the solution? Is Japan where the rise of robots going to happen?
The rise of robots in Asia
Japan leads the world in robot density. Although Europe is the regional center of robotic automation, the top three countries that employ robots are in Asia: Japan, Singapore and South Korea, with Japan having almost twice the robot density of Singapore.
From the IEEE Spectrum:
There are now 1 million industrial robots toiling around the world, and Japan is where they’re the thickest on the ground. It has 295 of these electromechanical marvels for every 10 000 manufacturing workers—a robot density almost 10 times the world average and nearly twice that of Singapore (169), South Korea (164), and Germany (163).
