What’s a car show without girls? Not half as much fun as I soon found out after walking around the exhibition hall of the Tokyo Auto Salon 2009 in Makuhari Messe last week. Trade shows are one of the few places in Japan where you can take pictures of women you are not acquainted with and still get smiles.
I brought along a tiny camera to the show–good enough for taking snapshots of stationary motor vehicles but barely adequate to take pictures of showgirls, in front of which half-crazed photographers were jostling to have the best place to shoot. So some the photos were blurred and dark and noisy, but were digitally retouched to make them usable.
{A photographer, hoping the guys at his back would stop pushing and let him take a sharp photo.}
So before you go to the next car show, take my advice: Buy a big lens (preferably image-stabilized, anti-shake or vibration-resistant) and a nice big flash with a diffuser. The diffuser is for making the girls prettier than they really are and the big lens is to scare away other photographers, especially if you bring along a large, semi-pro camera to go along with it.

This girl is the cutest so she gets three photos. ^_^;;
