Robot venture tmsuk and security company Alacom has announced the T-34, a security guard robot that can be remotely controlled through a cellphone and can fire a net at suspected intruders.

The T-34 security guard robot is fitted with infrared heat and sound sensors to detect the presence of intruders or sense unusual activity. If it detects humans or animals within 5 meters through its heat sensors or sense abnormal sounds like glass breaking or dogs barking, for instance, it will send a report to a designated cellphone number.
The robot’s built-in camera sends a video feed to the cellphone and lets the user see the actual situation before sending instructions through the cellphone’s keypad. The user can then control the robot remotely by pushing keys and can even warn the intruder through the robot’s loudspeaker. Although no special software is needed to be installed inside the cellphone, as of now, only NTT Docomo’s FOMA phones can be used with the robot.
T-34’s maximum speed of 10km/hr lets it patrol a large area quite easily and it’s built-in net launcher can be activated by a push of the cellphone’s button, immobilizing an escaping intruder.
The remotely controllable device is designed as a surveillance and first-response robot that can patrol an area on the spot, without any need of special security infrastructure in place.
The T-34 weighs 12kg and measures 60×52x60cm. Current price is around 800,000 yen (around $8,900) but should hover around 500,000 yen ($5,570) by the time it is available.
