Japanese living room goodness: tetrapod throw pillows
If you’ve gone to see the ocean in Japan, you’ve likely seen hundreds of tetrapods hugging the beach. These are huge, four-legged, naturally interlocking concrete structures that are meant to dissipate the force of waves hitting the breakwater. Some Japanese say they disfigure the coastal areas but many are totally in love with the simple yet utilitarian shape of these giant toy-like figures.
One of them is Ken Ohyama, who have blogged about making tetrapods in miniature (download the pdf file here).
Stuffed tetrapod throw pillows: “Teto Gurumi”
Recently he has outdone his earlier creations by making… what else… tetrapod throw pillows! He calls them “Teto Gurumi” (”teto” is the short version of the Japanese for tetrapod, and “gurumi” for “hugging” like teddy bears). I’d say these are one of the coolest throw pillows I’ve ever seen. Might even protect your living room from erosion caused by waves of marauding, over-active kids. Check out the cool pictures below or head on to Ken’s blog (in Japanese) to read on how to make these things yourself. Also check our his flickr page for more of these stuffed goodness.
(A Japanese reader of Ken’s blog has already made his own Teto Gurumi; you can see how he made it here.)
