Buy Matsuyama castle at Yahoo Japan Auctions

Posted by: brb In: Japan ()

Well, not that Matsuyama Castle. But it’s an impressive castle nonetheless; specifically, it’s a former love hotel that looks like a castle.

Ehime Prefecture in southern Japan has announced the auction of “a 5-story castle and surrounding area” located in Matsuyama City, Ehime at Yahoo Japan with a starting bid of 145,000,000 yen (around $1,500,000). I’d say this is an inexpensive way to get yourself an aristocratic residence–or a 30-room private love hotel.

The “castle” has been operating as a love hotel until about 5 years ago when the owners walked out on the property in the middle of a renovation. The property was eventually seized by the prefectural government for non-payment of taxes.

Included in the auction is the main castle tower and other smaller buildings and about 15,000 square meters of land. Bidders may apply from February 13 to 26; the actual auction will be done from March 3 to 10. You can visit the actual Yahoo Japan Auctions page and check out the details.

Is it just me or does this place not look exactly safe. It appears to be leaning a little.

yeah, the lower part of the castle on the third photo looks like it’s out of shape. I’d certainly make thorough inspection before I’d buy something as grand as a castle. :)

Are non-Japanese citizens allowed to buy this? Or it comes with a citizenship…

Well, maybe you need to be at least a permanent resident to get a house loan. ^_^;;

That looks like the perfect place to setup your own evil lair!! All it needs is a moat and some guards out the front.
