Yahoo Japan Auctions: a very honest Japanese seller

Posted by: brb In: Japan ()

I have bought a ton of stuff (literally) from Yahoo Japan Auctions (that’s where I got my car) and anecdotal evidence tells me that Japanese sellers are generally good-mannered, easy to deal with and honest.

The seller who posted the auction below, however, is way too honest than most.

The English translation would not do justice to the deadpan description that is almost comedic if it weren’t for the fact that the seller was truly serious about his auction.

Cursed Sanyo SR-9M/85L Mini 2-Door Refrigerator

This refrigerator was removed from a place beyond imagination

Frost had built up inside the direct-freeze-style freezer

And when cleaned…

From inside the frost came a huge clump of what looks like long human hair

In our profession, stories of beds whose mattresses have human-shaped imprints have become legends

This refrigerator is something comparable

The refrigerator is in good working order and clean

Will sell to someone who is looking for a working refrigerator and who won’t mind about its past

There are no shelves inside the fridge, which suggests a large solid object was previously stored there

Sanyo SR-9M 85L
Dimensions: 922cm x 476cm x 503cm (1997-made)

Relatively clean for its age
There are scratches and marks from regular use

The ref, by the way, was not sold.

Well, when I first came to Japan, we used to just pick up working refrigerators left by former owners on street corners. Who knows what they stored in them. ^_^;

Well, as long as the price is good, why not get it :p Unless there is some smell coming from it, hey whatever ^_^

Apparently, too much honesty is bad for business.

Michael, 1,000yen for a cursed fridge is not too bad. I’d have bought it if I didn’t need a bigger fridge with shelves for edible stuff. Or not.

Yup, really honest ones. Maybe the former owner used to sleep inside it during the summer months…
