Gundam is alive! Or, at least, he’s already standing unsupported. {Photo by Mainichi}
As reported earlier, this giant 35-ton, 18-meter badass Gundam is set to be unveiled in Odaiba, Tokyo on July 11 in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Gundam Moblie Suit robot franchise. It will be open to the public (for free) until [...]

A train decorated with characters from the famous manga and anime series Galaxy Express 999 was unveiled today in Tokyo. The manga-themed train is a collaboration between Reiji Matsumoto, creator of the series and designer of the train, and Seibu Railway Company and will ply various branches of the Seibu Line in Tokyo for 4 [...]

I made plans last week to go to the Tokyo International Anime Fair in Tokyo Big Site. I had the train schedules worked out and the camera fully charged the night before but… somehow didn’t make it (it must have been raining that day ^_^;).
So I just had to see the whole thing online.
Fortunately, other [...]

This is a sight worth seeing. A “life-sized” Gundam will be constructed at Odaiba’s Shiokaze Park in July to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Gundam Moblie Suit robot franchise, the official website has announced.
The statue will be free for viewing, but it will only stay up for two months. It will be built with [...]

Bandai Networks has announced the availability of their green-colored Gachapin-and-Mukku-themed netbook powered by Windows XP. Gachapin and Mukku are two popular Japanese anime characters: Gachapin is a 5-year-old dinosaur boy and his friend Mukku is a red yeti.
This decidedly unique netbook is anime-themed all over, from its custom system sounds (”oyaho”, “jaa ne” and “tadaima” [...]

Itasha aficionados in the Kanto Region of Japan gathered on the parking lot of a shopping mall in Nagara Town in Chiba Prefecture just north of Tokyo to show off their anime cars in an exhibition called “Winter 2009 Itasha Collection”. About 150 vehicles painted with anime and manga characters were on display last January [...]

The new year kicks off with an exhibition of custom cars at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2009 in Makuhari Messe. I went and took some pictures. Here’s one of my favorites: the customized μ-Dimension Acoustic Research anime-painted car.

In the winter of 1992, All Nippon Airways (ANA) held a contest to design one of its Boeing 747 jets. The result was Marine Jumbo, a whale-shaped airplane decorated with sea creatures and designed by Yukie Ogaki, then a 6th-grade schoolgirl.
The highly successful and much publicized design was soon followed in 1996 by another 747 [...]
